E-Portfolio Usability Testing Report

Artifact type: Usability Testing Report
Role: The usability tests were done remotely, therefore, I was the evaluator of the results along with the designer of the test itself including the questionnaire, tasks, and e-portfolio developer.

Artifact Description: The following report is a usability study of this e-portfolio, which was conducted remotely with 5 participants in various parts of Erie, PA. The users completed the study at their own pace with the expectation of video recording and timing themselves for each of the tasks. Furthermore, the participants were asked to talk out loud, however, without someone there asking questions or prompting to be directed on the way in which they were navigating, it lacked. The e-portfolio overall was a success in usability with a few minor suggestions for improvements, which were completed at the end of the evaluation and report documentation.

Competencies: Design and Development of a Learning System and System Evaluation

Reflection: This project allowed me to fully utilize my skills in evaluating a system and it's function, the user experience, and the design and development of the course and its effectiveness in giving the user an easy and aesthetically pleasing experience when navigating a site for the first time. Furthermore, this experience allowed me to utilize the skills I developed in my usability studies including proper methods of conducting usability tests with participants. For this particular experience it was a little tougher as it was done remotely on their own time due to multiple scheduling conflicts.

Strengths: The site the usability test focused on did well in its usability and review by the participants. The feedback that was received was relevant, and were items that greatly affected the user and their cognitive load, specifically when comparing given directions and relating them to headings/topics within the site. Those results and evaluation context can be found at the end of the usability report under Results and Recommendations.

Weaknesses: Due to a small amount of data received from pilot users, some of the areas of weakness were based on generalizations and assumptions made from the data. Furthermore, due to the participants not giving specific timing feedback to the decimal point, the time constraints are generalized, which are further explained in the report as well.
