The Theory of Color

Artifact type: Captivate Learning System
Role: For this project, I was the sole designer and developer of all the content including graphics and audio recording.

Artifact Description: The Theory of Color is a module developed to introduce students to the basics of color theory. The module was developed primarily for students in grades 6-9 focusing on the idea that it would be utilized to flip a classroom or as a review for students in 9th grade.

Competency : Design and Development of learning systems

Reflection: The Theory of Color is an aesthetically, colorful, and well-constructed module that introduces students to content in varying manners including audio narration, typed notations, and varying activities to reinforce retention. Throughout the module, students can interact in drag and drop activities including a color mixing practice activity, knowledge check questions, and areas of remediation where needed. The module ends with the culmination of the information being utilized to select the proper color scheme for a client looking to purchase a commission from the artist. It was a great experience to learn how to implement various Captivate features and practice developing various meaningful learning activities.

Strengths: The module is visually appealing with properly embedded audio features that are succinct and relevant to the content. The information can be further reinforced with the abilities to investigate the material through change state button features and practice exercises.

Weaknesses: The color mixing feature doesn’t quite mix properly when the base colors are switched. Furthermore, the introduction to the color mixing practice doesn’t disappear as intended.
